Uploading Exercises to hotpotatoes.net
Exercises
can only be uploaded using the Upload option provided
by a supported authoring program such as Textoys - you
cannot upload exercises via your hotpotatoes.net account
management page. (See Supported Authoring
Programs for details of the authoring programs you
can use.)
For details of how particular programs
handle uploading to hotpotatoes.net, see the Help file
for the program concerned.
Classes
When you upload an exercise, you must
choose a Class in which that exercise will be used.
Each exercise can only be accessed in one Class - if
you want to use the same exercise in two different classes,
you must upload it twice, with different titles.
When you first access your hotpotatoes.net
account, it will have one default class already set
up. Some types of hotpotatoes.net teacher account allow
only a single class, while others allow you to create
multiple classes - see Classes
for more details.
Exercise Viewing Options
At upload, you can also choose whether
the exercise will be visible to anyone, or password-protected
- see Exercise Viewing Options.
Exercise Titles
All the exercises you upload must
have different Titles - you enter the title in
the authoring program when you design the exercise.
When you choose to upload an exercise, the authoring
program first checks to see if you already have an exercise
with the same title in your hotpotatoes.net account
- if you do, the uploading program will ask you to confirm
that you want to overwrite the existing exercise. If
you proceed with the upload, the old exercise will be
deleted.
If you do not want to overwrite the
existing exercise of the same name, you must cancel
the upload, use the authoring program to change the
new exercise title (or use your hotpotatoes.net account
management page to change the title of the existing
one), then use the authoring program to upload the new
one again.
Ensuring that every exercise has a
different title, even though several exercises may contain
the same material, is an essential part of the way in
which hotpotatoes.net manages exercise files, and helps
prevent confusion among students. When students download
an exercise, they choose it from a list of titles, and
if duplication of titles were allowed, students may
do the wrong exercise by mistake. Even exercises in
different classes must have different titles, since
students can be members of more than one class.
How Many Exercises?
The number of exercises you can upload
to your hotpotatoes.net account may belimited by the
type of hosting arrangement you have - please see your
accounts settings page for details, or see Additional
Hosting Services.
