Creating Student Accounts
Teachers
can register names and passwords for their Students
in the Administration area. Once a Student name and
password has been set up, that student can then access
any of the exercises uploaded by their Teacher.
When creating a student account, you
must supply the following information:
- Name
- Password - a default password will be suggested,
but you can change any of your students' passwords
at any time. All students on hotpotatoes.net must
have different passwords.
- Class memberships - a student can be a member
of one or more of the classes set up by their Teacher.
See Classes.
- Email Address - this is used to make it easy
for teachers to to communicate with students, by providing
email links at various points in the Administration
Area. See Sending Messages to Students
for details. Please note that no-one at hotpotatoes.net
or at Creative Technology will send email messages
to your students without your explicit consent, except
in direct response to a support query from the student
concerned - see below.
The Name and Password are used by
the student to log in to hotpotatoes.net, so that when
they complete exercises, the results can be stored and
viewed by the teacher. If a student does not log in,
they can still do the exercises (if they know the URL
of the exercise page), but the exercise results will
not be stored.
Please note that the student's email
address and password can both be changed by the student,
as well as by the teacher.
Note also that the number of students
you can create depends on the hosting arrangement you
have with hotpotatoes.net - see Additional
Hosting Services for more information.
Technical Support for Students
If your students have any difficulty
using hotpotatoes.net, we hope that you will be able
to act as the first line of technical support, and we
will normally pass on any simple support queries we
receive from students (such as lost passwords or login
problems) directly to the teacher concerned.
If we receive notification from a
student of a genuienly technical issue or problem, we
may respond directly to the student, but we will always
copy the message to the teacher concerned.
If there is any information which
you think would be useful to students, but which is
not provided on these Help pages, we will be most grateful
if you can let us know. We constantly try to improve
the hotpotatoes.net system in response to feedback from
students and from teachers, and any comments are most
welcome.
